“In my opinion, Prof. Rees did a fine job of delineating the global problematique, but had scant comment on solutions or next steps.
As such his talk was disempowering as opposed to empowering, leaving newcomers to the perspective shell shocked.
I subscribe to the theory that evolution is driven by crises. The organism is adapted to its environment. When the environment changes,
the organism must re-adapt or succumb, go up or down. Existential crisis is evolutionary crisis. We can rephrase the old saying,
“Necessity is the mother of invention.” as “Crisis evokes creativity, thinking outside the box of the dominant paradigm.”
Paradigm Shift is the vehicle of human evolution, the new sort of thinking called for by Einstein.” -EB
